Day 01 : Arrive Guwahati

Arrival by flight in Guwahti, after traditional Swagat by our representative & transfer to Hotel & Check in. (Check in time at the hotel is 1200 hr) Later the day at leisure.Evening enjoy River Cruise: A River Cruise on the mighty Brahmaputra is a wonderful opportunity to get a feel of this legendry river.Overnight at hotel- Guwahati

Day 02 : Guwahati

Morning after breakfast we take half day guided city tour of Guwahato, We visit Kamakhya Temple: The Kamakhya Temple dominates the life of Guwahati, as much as does the great Brahmaputra River. The temple, situated high aloft a hill called Neelachal Parbat or Kamagiri in the city of Guwahati is one of its several religious landmarks, which speaks volumes about the rich historical treasure over which the state of Assam is seated. The Kamakhya Temple had been built in reverence to Goddess Kamakhya or Sati, who was one of the numerous incarnations of Goddess Durga or Goddess Shakti.
Bashista Ashram: Dating back to the time when the great sage Vashista visited this spot on confluence of the Sandhya, Lalita and Kanta stream, and set up his ashram here.
Shankardev Kalakshetra: a place where Assamese history and culture is depicted in a sprawling open enclosure.

Day 03 : Guwahati / Tezpur (185 Kms 4 hrs drive)

Morning after breakfast depart for Tezpur, "The city of Blood". Arrive and check in at hotel.
Afternoon we visit Tezpur : "The city of blood" (as a result of the great mythological war faught between Lord Krishna and Lord Shiva), Tezpur is 174 kms away from Guwahati. The remains of 5 th – 6th century stone temples have been discovered in nearby Da Parbatia.

Day 04 : Tezpur / Bomdila (165 Kms, 4 ½ hrs drive)

Morning after breakfast depart by car for Bomdlia. En route we visit Bhalukpong: Situated on the Assam-Arunachal border, 250 kms from Guwahati, Bhalukpong is another picturesque spot for angling and leisurely picnics.
Tipi: An Orchidarium at Tipi (5 kms from Bhalukpong) is the Botanical paradise of the state. About 300 specis can be seen in the flora – glass house. Some of them are rare and endangered species. By the side of the glass house there is an orchid museum too. Arrive Bomdila and check in at hotel.
Bomdila: At a height of 8500 ft, Bomdila is the headquarter of West Kameng District, the land of the Monpa, Sherdukpen, Aka (Hrusso), Miji and Bogun (Khawas) tribes.
Later Visit craft center, where very fine wooden carpets of colourful designs and Masks are produced, Buddhists Monasteries, Ethnographic Museum and shopping center.
Bomdila also offers a Bird's eye view of Kangto and Gorichen peaks (highest peaks in the state) amidst the Himalayan landscape and snow clad ranges.

Day 05 : Bomdila / Tawang (180 Kms, 5 hrs drive)

Morning after breakfast depart by car for Tawang.
En route we visit Jaswant Garh: 14 kms from Sela Pass the war memorial raised to pay homage to Jaswant Singh, Mahavir Chakra awardee of 4 Batallion Garhwal Rifles is a place where patriotic emotions of all Indians find a natural ex-pression
Sela Pass: One of the world's highest pass at 13714 ft. height, which runs through a small ridge and along the paradise lake.
Dirang: It is a small hill resort which is famous for the breathtaking views of the snowy Himalayan ranges and its orange farms.
Arrive Tawang and check in at hotel. Evening free at leisure.

Day 06 : Tawang
Tawang Monastery

Morning after breakfast explore Tawang, visiting Tawang Ganden Namgyal Lhaste : Popularly known as the Tawang or Gompa Monastery, is a 400 years old Mahayana Sect Buddhist Monastery. It was built during the 17th century AD by Mera Lama, a contemporary of the 5th Lama. It is situated at a height of 3500 m near the Buddhist border. It is a place worth paying a visit because of the collection of huge scriptures, books, gold lettered Buddhist scriptures, images and tapestries. The Parkhang Hall of the monastery has the library with the rare hand-written and block-painted thankas or manuscripts of revered books like Tangun, Kangyur and Sungbhum. The 108 gold-embossed manuscripts of the 'Teaching of Lord Buddha' and 225 volumes of the explanations of Buddha's teachings covered with specially designed moth - proof silk adorned with paintings are the other rare works of Buddhist literature. The18 ft high gilded statue of the Buddha in the monastery complex is also worth watching. The festival of Torgya is held in the 11th Monpa month called the Dawa Chukchipah in the Tawang Monastery. A Craft Center here produces fine woolen carpets in various colorful designs.
Urqelling Monastery is the birthplace of the 6th Dalai Lama who is the only Indian to have risen to such a high position in Gelupka Sect of Buddhism so far. These monasteries along with several other monasteries and nunneries are visited by several tourist from all over the world all the year round.
The Craft Center: The craft center in Tawang sells beautiful masks, hand woven carpets, jewellery in silver, coral and amber, 'chubas' the local dressand delightful affordable mementos
Rest of the time free to explore the town by your own.

Day 07 : Tawang / Bhalukpong (280 Kms, 6 hrs drive)

Morning After an early breakfast drive back to Bhalukpong. Arrive Bhalukpong and check in at the riverside resort.

Day 08 : Bhalukpong / Kaziranga (161 Kms, 4 hrs drive)

Early morning drive to Kaziranga National Park
Kaziranga National Park: The oldest park in Assam, Kaziranga, on the south bank of the Brahmaputra River, is world famous for its great Indian one – horned rhinoceros, of which there are aplenty. Spread across 430 sq kms, it is a dazzling mosaic of dense rain forest, tall elephant grass and swathes of reeds interspersed with vast tracts of marshes and shallow pools that are a favourite haunt of this celebraty pre-historic beast. Wild elephant, hog deerand barasingha also abound. Book in advance for at least a night's stay at the forest lodge to catch those early morning views of him from elephant back. Jeep safaris are also arranged. This National Park is 217 kms from Guwahati and 96 kms from Jorhat.

Day 11 : Kohima

Morning after breakfast we visit Kohima village: As you enter this village, you notice a number of traditional wooden gates with the scimitar of horns of Mithun. In this village, one comes across wooden carvings looking like horns atop some houses.You can also see relics of stone erections here and there in front of the houses which are memorial symbols of the grand feasts offered by their ancestors.
The Kohima War cemetery : It was constructed in memory of the officers and men who made supreme sacrifices during World War II. On each grave there are beautiful epitaphs engraved in bronze.
The state museum: It has a rare collection of artifacts of the different tribes, which inhabit the state. It depicts the different aspects of life of the people in all its varied forms.

Morning after breakfast we visit: Manipur Zoological Gardens: Eight kilometers from Imphal, at the foot of the pine-covered hillocks, you will find a wealth of rare birds, animals and reptiles at the Manipur
Zoological Gardens. In the zoo's sylvan surroundings, you will even get a glimpse of one of the rarest species of deer in the world, the graceful brow-antlered thamin deer
Khonghampat Orchidarium: there is the Khonghampat Orchidarium that has more than a hundred rare varieties of orchids. The best time to visit the orchidarium is in the months of April and May when the orchids are in full bloom.
Khwairamband Bazaar: One of the main features of Imphal is the Khwairamband Bazaar. What makes this market different is thatit is run by women. Split into two sections on either side of the road, it has tribal women clad in colorful, traditional attire, selling everything from hand-woven shawls, skirts, vessels, mugs and mats to fish, lotus, oranges and orange-flavored honey. And if you wander in the quaint by lanes around the market, you will get a glimpse of Manipur's customs and traditions.
Shri Govindajee Temple : The core of Imphal's traditions, however, lies in its various temples. The most important of these is the Shri Govindajee Temple, a historic center for Vaishnavites. A simple, twin-domed structure, it adjoins the magnificent palace of the former rulers of Manipur. Constructed in the early 18th century under the Rajarishi Bhagyachandra regime, the temple comes alive during festivals when thousands of people come to offer prayers. In fact the best time to visit it is during Holi, also known in Manipur as Dolijatra or Yaosong when boys and girls do the Thaba Changba folk dance, all night. In the center of the temple stands the presiding deity, Lord Vishnu flanked by the shrines of Balarama and Krishna on one side and Jagannatha on the other. The temple also has a paved court and a large raised congregation hall.

Morning after breakfast excursion to the lake city Udaipur , Udaipur : The main attractions in Udaipur are Tripura Sundari Temple, popularly known as MATABARI, one of the 51 pithas of Hindu Puran, Bhuvaneswari Temple, Gunabati group of Temples, Vast Lakes with scenic beauty.
Tripura Sundari Temple: This temple is one of the 51 pithasthans in India as per Hindu mythology. As per mythology, Lord Vishnu had cut off the body of Mata Sati into 51 pieces by Sudarshana Chakra and all these pieces fell at different places throughout the country and these places are known as pithasthans. It is said that 'right foot' of Mata Sati fell at Matabari. This pithasthan is also known as Kurma Pith because the shape of the temple premises resembles to that of "Kurma" namely tortoise. Inside the temple, the idol of Maa Kali is kept which is made of 'reddish black Kastic pathar.' Maa Kali is worshipped in her 'Soroshi' form in this temple. There is an idol of smaller size of Maa Kali called 'Chotto Maa 'and this image used to be carried by Maharajas of Tripura during "Mrigaya" namely hunting and also during war.
The temple consists of square type sanctum of the typical Bengali hut type structure with a conical dome. The temple was constructed in 1501 A.D. by the then Maharaja Dhanya Manikya.
In the eastern side of the temple there is a famous Kalyan Sagar where fishes and tortoises of huge size are found and devotees feed them with "muri" and biscuits. No fishing is permitted in the Kalyan Sagar. Every year on Dewali, a famous Mela takes place near the temple which is visited by more than two lakhs pilgrims.

Neer Mahal: This magnificent lake palace was constructed as a summer resort in 1930 by late Maharaja Birbikram Kishore ManikyaBahadur in the middle of a natural lake called Rudrasagar having an area of 5.35 Sq.Km. The construction was undertaken by Martin & Burn Co. and it is the only lake palace in the entire eastern India.
A good combination of Hindu and Mughal architecture is noticed on the domes of the palace. There are mainly two parts of the palace - one on the western side known as Andar Mahal which was used by the royal family and another on the eastern side which was used for the security personnel and servants. There are 15 rooms in the main Andar Mahal. There is a beautiful garden laid in the western side of the palace. In the garden there is an open stage where drama, theatre, etc. use to be organised.
Maharajas used to go by motor boat to the palace from Rajghat.
In water number of migratory birds are found in the lake surrounding Neermahal.
Kamalasagar Lake: Vast lake at the border of Bangladesh was excavated by Maharaja Dhanya Manikya in 15th century. On the bank of Kamalasagar, there is a famous temple of Goddess Kali dating back to 16th century. It is one of the excellent picnic spots in the statewith scenic beauty.
Later return to Agartala.

Morning after breakfast city tour of Shillong visiting: Ward's Lake ( also famous as Shillong Lake ) and the landscaped Lady HydariPark which also has a mini zoo.
The old churches of Shillong : The town is dotted with fine old churches of which the Cathedral of Mary Help of Christians is mostfamed for its stained glass windows and lofty arch.
Shillong Golf Course: Shillong's popular 18 hole golf course (referred to as the Gleneagles of the east) holds its annual tournament in October, when these khasi hills are at their prettiest
Shillong Peak (1965 m): About 10 kms from the town, it offers breathtaking views of the city spread out against its glorious hill slopes. If time permits visit the Bishop Falls, Beadon Falls and the three step Elephant Falls.
Evening free to roam around in the famous Mall.

Day 21 : Shillong / Cherapunjee / Shillong

Morning after breakfast drive to Cherapunjee.
Cherapunjee: Once world renowned for being the wettest place on earth, cherapunjee is impressive with its gushing waterfalls and the deep gorges. You get stunning views of the plains of Bangladesh. Cherapunjee's orange and honey are famous and you can pick up fine baskets from the Sohra Market.
In cherapunjee visit, Krem Mawmluh cave: This cave is located half a km west of Cherrapunjee adjacent to the small hamlet of Mawmluh. The cave has five river passage with impressive proportions. The cave has a length of over seven Kms.
Also visit Cherapunjee's famous waterfalls: Close to the town are glorious Nohsngithiang Falls ( Mawsmai Falls), Dainthlen Falls, Nohkailikai Falls (world's fourth highest) and many smaller falls. The stunning gorges are worth all that film you carried with you.
Later return to Shillong.Evening free to visit the famous Mall.

Nagaland is a land of unique traditions and culture . Sharing border - lines with Assam in east, Arunachal Pradesh in its northeast, and Manipur in south, it comprises of the intriguing world of ancient rituals and a brave people .

It is the richest fashion centre of the North East Nagaland is blessed with a `salubrious climate throughout the year and one can visit it anytime. Wild animals like elephant, leopards, tiger, wild buffalo are found in deep jungles while its vast expanses of paddy fields, fed by an elaborate indigenous irrigation system.

The state consist of 16 major tribes along with other sub-tribes. Each tribe has its own custom and tradition, different dialects and dresses. Above all the people here are warm - hearted and extremely hospitable . Any tourist will enjoy the ambience and feel warmth of hospitality here.

Month of November to April (Avoid May to September from the monsoon)

Come and visit tribal villages, see Naga men with their headhunter tattoos and admire houses decorated with mighty buffalo and mithun horns.

Day 1: Arrival at Dibrugarh airport. Transfer to hotel in Sibsagar. Afternoon local sightseeing. Overnight hotel.

Day 2: Full day sightseeing at Sibsagar. Visit Shiva and Vishnu temples and the ruins of the Ahom kingdom – memories of a time when the Ahom kings ruled Assam. Overnight hotel in Sibsagar.

Day 3: Today we are driving from Sibsagar to Mon. First we will pass the Assam tea gardens before we enter Nagaland. When reaching Mon, we are in the heart of the Konyak tribal area. Here former headhunters with their tattood faces and big horns in their ears can still be admired. In the afternoon visit of Angh´s house at Chui. Konyaks are still ruled by heredetary chiefs known as Anghs. Overnight Mon.

Day 4: Full day visit of Konyak tribal villages. First we will drive to Shangnyu, which possesses a unique piece of woodcarving. It is a 20 feet long and 12 feet high fertility shrine made of one piece of wood. In the afternoon you will visit the traditional Mon Village. Overnight Mon.

Day 5: Full day drive through beautiful countryside to Mokokchung. This town is the cultural centre of the Ao Naga tribe. Overnight Mokokchung.

Day 6: Today whole day exploration of Ao Naga tribal villages. In Impur you can walk around the village on the old missionary´s path and visit the local museum with tribal exhibits. In the afternoon we will visit Longkhum, a vanguard village in the days of headhunting. Finally we will go to Ungma Village, the oldest and biggest Ao village. Overnight Mokokchung.

Day 7: After breakfast we will drive to Tuensang. In this area the Chang, Yimchunger, Khiamungan, Sangtam and Phom Nagas live. In the afternoon visit Tuensang Village. Overnight Tuensang.

Day 8: This day you will go to tribal villages in the region of Tuensang. It is an area, where you can also see many mithuns. The most important and still very traditional villages will be Noklak and Pangsha. Overnight Tuensang.

Day 9: After breakfast we will drive to Wokha. Near this town there is Longsa Village, which is inhabited by the Lotha tribe. Here Longzu (monoliths) are erected that remind of the merits of some ancestors. Thereafter we will continue our drive to Tuophema Village, where you will attend a cultural show in the evening. Overnight Tuophema Village.

Day 10: In the morning you can trek for some hours in the mountains near Tuophema (optional). In the afternoon we will drive to Nagaland´s capital Kohima. In this area you will find Angami Naga tribes. Overnight hotel in Kohima.

Day 11: In the morning sightseeing in Kohima. In Kohima you can still find the old town gates with their carved motives of headhunting. Another interesting sight is the local market and the war cemetery. In the afternoon visit Khonoma Village. Here the Angami Nagas fought a fierce battle against the British, who came in an expedition to these Naga hills in 1879. Overnight hotel in Kohima.

Day 12: Today you can make an easy trek in the paddy fields south of Kohima. Visit two villages of the Southern Angami tribe. Overnight hotel in Kohima.

Day 13: In the morning we will drive to Dimapur. Here you can see ruins from the Kachari Kingdom, that was established before the Ahom invasion in the 13th century. In the afternoon 13 km drive to Diezephe Craft Village (woodcarving and weaving). Here you can buy some final souvenirs. Overnight hotel in Dimapur.

Day 14: Transfer to airport for departure.

Day9: Depart for sightseeing of Tawang Monastery and War Memorial .

The Balpakram National Park is located to the extreme South Garo Hills, Meghalaya at a distance of 90 kms. from Baghmara, the district headquarters of South Garo Hills. This pocket of pristine beauty named Balpakram National Park is also close to the international boundary of Bangladesh.

If “Balpakram” is translated to English, it means “The land of Eternal Wind”. Originally only the plateau was known as Balpakram and the Garo considered this place to be sacred. Literally, Balpakram means a place of perpetual wind and according to Garo mythology; it is also above of the Dead spirits. According to legends this was the place where the spirit of the dead first rested with the spirit of a sacrificed bull, before going on to complete their journey to the heavens. There are many legends attached to stones, ponds and mountains in this plateau, which, combined with the barrenness and solitude, creates a space of tranquility. The Balpakram National Park is shrouded in mystery, soaked with charms, breathtaking scenery, amazing variety of wildlife, magnificent and charming tribal lore, legends, beliefs and sentiments. Simply put, it is a Travellers Paradise.

Balpakram has its own importance for the Garos and Hindus alike. Garos believe that when a person has discarded his earthly vestures the spirit journeys to the Land of Balpakram where it dwells temporarily until its final journey. It is also believed by Hindus that Hanuman the Monkey God while looking for the herb Sanjeevani to cure Laxman injured in the battle with Ravana found it in Balpakram and took the top of the hill from Balpakram leaving a plateau or flat land in its place, what is today known to the Garos as Chutmang Peak, the highest point in South Garo Hills.

This park with its vast elevational variation supports a profile of varied types of floral and faunal compositions. There are perhaps very few places in the whole world where such a unique concentration of immense numbers of flora and fauna occur in such a small area. Elephants and Tigers are the flagship of the park. Hullock Gibbons, the only ape species found in India can be seen here. Other animals found in the park are Deer, Great Indian Hornbill, Pheasant, Wildcats, Wildcows, Wild buffalo, Leopards etc. Among the plants very rare species like Pitcher Plants (Nepenthes Khasiana), Orchids and Drosera flourish abundantly which often attracts wildlife biologists, researchers, nature-lovers and conservationists. Agar (Aquillaria Agallocha) is another endemic plant which enriches the flora diversity of the park.

Today this plateau is part of the Balpakram National Park, covering an area of about 220 Sq. kms. with anumber of wild animals in it. The chief of it being the Royal Bengal tiger (19 tigers – 1991 census), the elephant, bison, black bear, leopards, sambar, deer, and many other species. The western side of the Park touches the Siju Bird Sanctuary which in turn is separated from the Siju village by the Simsang River. Siju, with the Simsang is an idyllic destination for a short pleasant holiday. Treks can be arranged to Rongsu village and onward to Chitmang (a small table top mountain), which offers a panoramic view of the Simsang river meandering through the lower hills.

The little known wildlife sanctuary of Dibru-Saikhowa is an area of grassland and swamp forest sandwiched between the Brahmaputra and Dibru rivers in the east of Assam. Contained between these rivers, the park is a 340sq km reserve, which was set up with a view to protecting the grassland and swamp habitat on the flood plains of the Brahmaputra River.Dibru-Saikhowa is one of the biodiversity hot spots situated in the south bank of the river Brahmaputra in the extreme east of Assam state in India. It lies between 27&deg30' N to 27&deg45' N latitude and 95&deg10' E to 95&deg45'E longtitute at an average altitude of 118 m (range 110-126m) above the mean sea level. Biogeographically the area exhibits the properties of both the Indian and malayan sub regions and represents the North Eastern India-Brahmaputra valley Biogeographical province(9A). Dibru-Saikhowa is among the most vibrant wildness on earth and is also distinct for her pristine scenic beauty. Situated in the flood plan of Brahmaputra, Dibru-Saikhowa is a safe haven for many extremly rare and endangered species of wild life.VEGETATION T he forest type of Dibru-Saikhowa comprises of semievergreen forests,deciduos forests, littoral and swamp forests and patches of wet evergreen forests. The National Park is having about 35.84% moist mixed forests, 9.50% degraded forests and 21.25% grassland. Main tree species of the area are Salix tetrasperma, Bischofia javanica, Dillenia indica,Bombax ceiba,Terminalia myriocarpa,Lagerstroemia parviflora,Mesua ferrea, Dalbergia sissoo,Ficus spp. etc. are some of the species of the orchid flora of Dibru-Saikhowa. Arundo donax,Imperata cylindrica,Phragmaties karka,Erianthus ravanea, Saccharum spp. are dominant species of grasses in the Natioal Park.

It has numerous internal water channels, seasonally flooded forests, "beels", and grassy pockets. This makes it an interesting birding destination for rare specialised grassland and swamp forest birds such as the threatened Marsh Babbler, Jerdon's Babbler, Black-breasted Parrotbill, Swamp Prinia and Jerdon’s Bushchat. Some of the other birds found here are Swamp Francolin, Cotton Pygmy-goose, Spot-billed Duck, Speckled Piculet, Drongo Cuckoo, Pale-capped Pigeon, Grey-headed Lapwing, Slenderbilled Vulture, Red-necked Falcon, Peregrine Falcon, Darter, Rosy Minivet, Spangled Drongo, Little Pied Flycatcher, Pale-chinned Flycatcher, White-tailed Rubythroat, White-tailed Stonechat, Spot-winged Starling, Pale-footed Bush Warbler, Japanese Bush Warbler, Chestnut-crowned Bush Warbler, Grey-sided Bush Warbler, Spotted Bush Warbler, Paddyfield Warbler, Clamorous Reed Warbler, Thick-billed Warbler, Smoky Warbler, Striped Tit-Babbler, Chestnut-capped Babbler, Jerdon's Babbler, Nepal Fulvetta, Ruby-cheeked Sunbird, Black-throated Sunbird, Crimson Sunbird, Black-breasted, Weaver, Streaked Weaver, Yellow-breasted Bunting, Black-faced Bunting.

Garampani :

It is a hot water spring inside the Nambar Reserve Forest, about 18 Km South of Golaghat town; only about 50 M. from the NH 39 on the way to Dimapur in Nagaland. One can visit it by hiring a taxi from Golaghat town or by public buses plying on the Golaghat Dimapur route. During winter season lucky visitors may get to see herds of wild elephants grazing by the side of the highway as NH 39 passes through the thickest portion of Nambor Forest.

Neghereting Shiva Mandir :

Perched on a hill top, it is an ancient Shiva temple built by Ahom kings. It is surrounded by lush green tea gardens and is a popular picnic spot. From the NH 37, it is only about 1 and 1/2 Km to the north. From Golaghat town, it is about 30 Kms and from Jorhat town it is about 32 Kms. Neghereting temple is also the home of hundreds of monkeys.

Deopahar Ruins, Numaligarh :

Is that ruins are always so much more appealing than restorations ? Deopahar is an example. Scattered on the hill top are ruins of an ancient temple with statues lying shattered and greenery sprouting from the heads of others. The climb to the top of the hill is exhausting, especially on a hot day, but the view from the top spanning across Numaligarh Tea Estate and nearby Karbi Anglong hills and forests is simply divine. Deoparbat is situated just by the side of road, about only 5 Kms. from Numaligarh Tinali on NH 37, from where the N.H. 39 leading to Dimapur starts.

Uncle Robin's Children Museum :

The museum is located on the main road in Golaghat town and within the residence of Dr Robin Banerjee, a naturalist of International repute. The museum is full of dolls, artifacts, mementos, movies and other personal collections of Dr Banerjee's lifetime.

Dolls : There are 587 dolls and 262 other show pieces. They have mostly been presented by admirers and children during his many trips to abroad and within the country as well.

Paintings/Photographs : There are 194 Paintings and 19 Award winning Photographs. All the paintings were done by Dr. Robin Banerjee and all the photographs taken by himself in very adverse conditions related to wildlife.

Artifacts : There are 93 pieces artifacts. For instance, (a) Naga Warrior's head hunting basket, (b) Dalai Lama from Patala palace, Tibet made up of Fish Bones and (c) One small beautiful Horse made up of Turquoise and was gifted from China.

Films : 26 documentary films started from 1953 to 1998 which were shot by him and six films are still in the cans without editing etc.

GOLAGHAT BAPTIST CHURCH:

Golaghat Baptist Church, one of the oldest and biggest Baptist Churches in Assam, which celebrated its Centenary Jubilee in 1999, came into being in December 1898. The pioneering man in this Great Venture was Dr. O. L. Swanson, a missionary from America, who had come to Assam in 1893 along with his wife. Dr. Swanson was assisted by a number of local people.

Day 3: Today we are driving from Sibsagar to Mon. First we will pass the Assam tea gardens before we enter Nagaland. When reaching Mon, we are in the heart of the Konyak tribal area. Here former headhunters with their tattood faces and big horns in their ears can still be admired. In the afternoon visit of Angh´s house at Chui. Konyaks are still ruled by heredetary chiefs known as Anghs. Overnight Mon.
Day 4: Full day visit of Konyak tribal villages. First we will drive to Shangnyu, which possesses a unique piece of woodcarving. It is a 20 feet long and 12 feet high fertility shrine made of one piece of wood. In the afternoon you will visit the traditional Mon Village. Overnight Mon.
Day 5: Full day drive through beautiful countryside to Mokokchung. This town is the cultural centre of the Ao Naga tribe. Overnight Mokokchung.
Day 6: Today whole day exploration of Ao Naga tribal villages. In Impur you can walk around the village on the old missionary´s path and visit the local museum with tribal exhibits. In the afternoon we will visit Longkhum, a vanguard village in the days of headhunting. Finally we will go to Ungma Village, the oldest and biggest Ao village. Overnight Mokokchung.
Day 7: After breakfast we will drive to Tuensang. In this area the Chang, Yimchunger, Khiamungan, Sangtam and Phom Nagas live. In the afternoon visit Tuensang Village. Overnight Tuensang.
Day 8: This day you will go to tribal villages in the region of Tuensang. It is an area, where you can also see many mithuns. The most important and still very traditional villages will be Noklak and Pangsha. Overnight Tuensang.
Day 9: After breakfast we will drive to Wokha. Near this town there is Longsa Village, which is inhabited by the Lotha tribe. Here Longzu (monoliths) are erected that remind of the merits of some ancestors. Thereafter we will continue our drive to Tuophema Village, where you will attend a cultural show in the evening. Overnight Tuophema Village.
Day 10: In the morning you can trek for some hours in the mountains near Tuophema (optional). In the afternoon we will drive to Nagaland´s capital Kohima. In this area you will find Angami Naga tribes. Overnight hotel in Kohima.
Day 11: In the morning sightseeing in Kohima. In Kohima you can still find the old town gates with their carved motives of headhunting. Another interesting sight is the local market and the war cemetery. In the afternoon visit Khonoma Village. Here the Angami Nagas fought a fierce battle against the British, who came in an expedition to these Naga hills in 1879. Overnight hotel in Kohima.
Day 12: Today you can make an easy trek in the paddy fields south of Kohima. Visit two villages of the Southern Angami tribe. Overnight hotel in Kohima.
Day 13: In the morning we will drive to Dimapur. Here you can see ruins from the Kachari Kingdom, that was established before the Ahom invasion in the 13th century. In the afternoon 13 km drive to Diezephe Craft Village (woodcarving and weaving). Here you can buy some final souvenirs. Overnight hotel in Dimapur.
Day 14: Transfer to airport for departure.

Day 01: Arrival in Guwahati. Transfer to hotel. In case of early arrival visit of Kamakhya Temple in the afternoon. Overnight hotel.

Day 02: Drive through the Brahmaputra Valley to Nameri National Park. Choice of angling, a boat ride, bird watching or relaxing. Overnight in Nameri Eco Camp.

Day 03: Today we will enter Arunachal Pradesh and drive to Dirang. Enroute you will visit Tipi Orchidarium, Asia´s largest orchidarium with over 7500 orchids. In the afternoon visit Dirang, a Monpa village, with its traditional water mills and Dirang Dzong. Overnight at hotel.

Day 04: In the morning you will visit the Buddhist Kalachakra Monastery. After that drive to Tawang. To get there we will have to cross the 4150 metres high Se-la Pass, which was once the battlefield where the Indian and Chinese armies fought against each other. Enroute we will visit the Se-la temple and stop at small villages on the road. In the afternoon visit a Buddhist nunnery, the Gyangong Ani Gompa close to Tawang town. Overnight hotel in Tawang.

Day 05: Explore the 350 year old Tawang Monastery and take part in the early morning puja. Tawang Monastery is the largest Tibetan style monastery in India and the second largest in Asia. It is inhabited by monks who belong to the Gelupa Sect of the Mahayana School of Buddhism. In the afternoon visit the Urgelling Monastery that was built in the 15th century. It is the birthplace of the Sixth Dalai Lama. Overnight at hotel.

Day 06: Drive back over the Se-la pass via Dirang to Bomdila. Enroute stop at villages and take photos of a fantastic waterfall. Overnight hotel in Bomdila.

Day 07: In the morning visit Rabgyaling Gontse Gompa, Upper Gompa and Thupchob Gatseling Gompa. After that we will have to leave the mountains and come to the plains of Assam when we drive to Kaziranga.. Overnight hotel.

Day 08: Early morning elephant safari. After breakfast a jeep safari to watch the great Indian one-horned rhinoceros and wild fowl. Overnight hotel.

Day 09: Drive to Guwahati. Check into hotel. Evening watch life on the river banks of the Brahmaputra or visit emporiums to buy some souvenirs. Here our interesting tour will end. Overnight hotel.

About Kaziranga National Park

In the heart of Assam, located on the banks of the mighty Brahamputra River, this park is one of the last areas in eastern India undisturbed by a human presence. It is inhabited by the world's largest population of one-horned rhinoceroses, as well as many mammals, including tigers, elephants, panthers and bears, and thousands of birds. With Open country covered mostly with elephant grass, Kaziranga gives visitors a chance to see the fauna at fairly close quarters.

Situated in Golaghat and Nagaon district, the Kaziranga National Park extends over an area of 430 sq. km. It is bounded by the Mikir Hills on the South and Bramhaputra River on the north. The park, 217 km from the capital of Assam, Guwahati was declared a Wildlife sanctuary in 1950 and accorded the status of a National Park in 1974. The park divided into central, eastern and western sectors consists of semi- evergreen-forested highlands, rivulets, marshes and extensive plains covered with tall elephant grass up to 6 metres high.

The park is famous for Indian one horned rhinoceros, which can reach a height of over two metres and weigh more than two tonnes. The area was declared a game reserve in 1908 to save the one-horned rhino. The total number of rhinoceros in the park totals more than a thousand which is 70 percent of the total population of this species in the country.

The park also has elephants, swamp or wild buffalo (Over 70% of the world population), swamp deer, hog deer, barking deer, sambar/ Hoolock gibbon, pythons, civet cat, wild boar and tigers. There is a rich variety of fresh water fowls, over 450 species of woodland and grassland birds of which 18 species are globally threatened. Birds like the egrets, pond herons, river tern, black necked storks, pelican, partridges, Bengal florican stork, pied hornbill, fishing eagle are found in abundance. The river here has the gharial (fish eating crocodile) and dolphins.

March - April is best for animal sightings. Trained elephants are available as mounts for seeing the rhinos at close range. Elephant rides which last around one hour, should be booked the previous evening at the park administrative Centre in Kohora.

How to Get There :

Air : The nearest airports are at Jorhat, 97-km and Guwahati, 217-km away from the park. Jorhat has direct flights to Kolkata.

Rail : The nearest railhead is Furkating, situated 75-km away from the park and Jorhat.

Road : The main gate for Kaziranga, at Kohora is on the National Highway. ASTC and private buses stop here on their way to and from Guwahati, Tezpur and Upper Assam; some private buses retain a seat quota for Kaziranga passengers. The 4-hour drive from Guwahati along the Bramhaputra south bank on the NH37 passes Dispur, Nowgong and Bagori to the park entrances at Kohora and Baguri.
